KENNETH GIESE HEJNFELT
Who is Kenneth ?
We have been knowing Kenneth Giese Hejnfelt for a long time, and our common passion for fly tying and fly fishing, has evolved to a great friendship.
He is a very likeable man, with both feet solid on the ground, and we fish together once in a while.
Kenneth is extremely skilled when it comes to pike flies, but is amazing in generel, and has been tying everything from micro nymphs to seatrout flies.
We use his skills on fly fairs, and he helps us to take care of our Instagram channel as well.
Questions & Answers
When and where were you born ?
I was born in 1984, in Southern Jutland, Haderslev, Denmark.
When did you start fishing, tying flies and fishing with flies ?
I started fishing when I was approximately 6-7 years old.
I used most of my childhood fishing in small creeks and streams, for browntrout and grayling but I also fished open coast with my father.
When I was around 10 years old, my grandfather introduced me to fly fishing and fly tying and i believe I tied my first fly around that time.
Do you remember the first fish you have ever caught, and the bait ?
My first fish caught was a decent sized Cod, on open coast, caught on a spoon lure called ”sølvpilen”.
Do you remember the first fly you tied ?
Of course, the first fly i ever tied was a Red Tag, taught by my grandfather. I believe i still have the fly in an old flybox.
Do you only flyfish ?
I prefer fly fishing but I have no problem with taking my UL-spinning gear and go hunt some Perch or Seatrout.
I would say that 90% is fly fishing and 10% on all other types of fishing.
What is the biggest fish you've caught ?
The biggest fish I ever caught is a Northern Pike at 113 cm, I don’t know the weight.
My biggest trophy fish is a Danish Brown Trout at 3,2 kg and 67 cm, caught in a small creek on dry fly.
What is your favourite fish in your own country, top 3 ?
1. Northern Pike
2. Perch
3. Seatrout (Searun Brown Trout)
Do you have other hobbies, and which ones ?
Yes, I do have a few other hobbies, besides flyfishing and flytying.
When time and money allows it, I like to collect and build LEGO, mainly LEGO Ideas sets (CUUSOO).
I also like spending time working with my Airbrush, building lures like jerk- and crankbaits, from scratch and of course spending time with my family and friends.
Do you have a favourite quote to share ?
Yes, my absolute favorite is from Bill Watterson:
” God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind that I will never die. ”
My interpretation is that as long as you have something to do (work, hobbies, family and friends) and keep yourself busy, you won’t have time to die.
Do you have social medias you would like to share ?
Yes, all of my fly tying and fly fishing feeds can be found on my Instagram, and I am working on a YouTube channel, where I will do some ”step-by-step” flies and upload small fishing videos in the upcoming future.
You can find my social medias on the top of this site, feel free to join them.
All the best.
