Who is Kari ?
We have never met Kari Latomaa in real life, but we have been following him on his social medias, and we really like his work.
Kari is a flytyer with a lot of things going on, instagram, facebook and he has his own youtube channel with some nice SBS videos.
He is a very nice likeable guy, and we highly recommend that you follow him around, we’re sure you will get inspired.
Kari is a superstar when it comes to coastal flies, shrimps and baitfish, and we are very pleased that he is one of Easy Shrimp Eyes Elite Tyers.
Questions & Answers
When and where were you born ?
I was born in 1990, in Ylivieska, Finland. Now i live in Kokkola, Finland.
When did you start fishing, tying flies and fishing with flies ?
I have been fishing since i was born, almost.. My mom and dad took me out fishing when i was just a small
child. I got my first spinning rod when i was 5. Me and my friends used to fish a lot when we were 7-10 years old.
Sometimes my mom had to come to the river and tell me i had to go home because ”tomorrow is a school day”. 🙂
My mom took me to a ”fly tying tutorial weekend” when i was 10 years old.
There were some professional fly tyers who teached me and other kids how to tie flies. After that weekend i got my
first Shakespeare fly fishing set and started fly fishing. I have tied flies for 19 years now.
Do you remember the first fish you have ever caught, and the bait ?
Sure ! it was a small perch and i got it with worm as bait.
Do you remember the first fly you tied ?
Yes, it was black leech with a red head. I tied that fly in the fly tying tutorial weekend.
Do you only flyfish ?
Yes i do. 5 years ago i threw my spinning rod to the garbage and decided to fish only with my fly rods.
What is the biggest fish you've caught ?
The biggest fish i have ever caught was a 110cm/10kg pike.
But my favorite big fish i have ever caught was a 105cm/9,85kg Atlantic Salmon from Finnmark, Norway.
What is your favourite fish in your own country, top 3 ?
1. Sea Trout (Searun Brown Trout)
2. Perch
3. Pike
Do you have other hobbies, and which ones ?
I play Call Of Duty on my PS4. Hobby or not, i like it ! 😀
Do you have a favourite quote to share ?
My favourite quote is a typical finnish quote: ”Niin metsä vastaa, kuin sinne huudetaan”. These finnish words means the same as “What goes around, comes around”.

Do you have social medias you would like to share ?
Yes, i post a lot of fly photos on my instagram and on facebook. My profiles are public, so feel free to follow me on instagram and send a friend request on facebook.
I have a youtube channel as well, but i should be more active to post videos in there, i will try to step up in the future 🙂
